Welcome to the EDQP Watch

Hello and welcome.   This is your blog spot to get the latest gouge on the Navy Reserve Engineering Duty Qualification Program (NR EDQP).   This site will be monitored by senior officers to help with any questions, ideas, or comments that you may have on the EDQP.  Concerns with the material?  How to set up a mock board?  What will the questions be like?  What is a white paper?  How do I get help?  Anything is fair game to ask - you won't be the first, and it will help your fellow candidates.

Stop back often to stay 'in the know' and sign-up for email alerts.   Good luck - you have already tackled the first challenge by becoming an EDO candidate; you have the stuff to pass with flying colors.  Navigate this course well, and you will have a lifetime of career influences that will make a positive difference to you, your Navy, and your country!

Hi fellow WG members,

Here's my first lessons learned (which everyone may already know). Before you try to post anything, create an account and sign-in. Otherwise, you could lose all your comments.

I'm interested in what you thought of VADM McCoy's comments about the AC EDQP. My take was that he wants the candidates to get deep in their command and not worry about breadth. We took a different approach for the NR EDQP. My opinion is that we don't need to make changes now, but as we modify the program in the future, we know that we're on the rigorous end of the spectrum so we should change towards less rigor.

It was also important to him that the candidate feel successful in his qual tour and have a can-do attitude going into the follow-on tour. The NR EDQP is neutral on that point, so any counseling we do and any future changes we make should help the 1465's feel encouraged/empowered. Any thoughts?

- Mike

Hi Mike / All:
Yes, I agree. Our program I believe requires a lot of work and is very broad in scope; I read VADM McCoy's comments as moderate workload and specific to the commands supported (basically, get good work out of the candidate and the qualification will be by default). I know many other commands are in exact agreement with that philosophy. The important difference is AC goes through OCS and many times a warfare qualification prior to ED Option; we're dealing with DCO's without prior service in many cases. I believe the key to success for both the program and candidates is our CERTO's, who can develop a relationship with the candidate and determine how best to proceed with the candidates progress. Good discussion....

I think we should focus on a broad complementary role vice a narrow supplemental role. I sent you an e-mail by SEPCOR with my thoughts.
